Addo is the best goalkeeper in Ghana

December 30, 2021

Aduana Stars’ Joseph Addo is currently one of the best players in the Ghanaian Premier League, proving that goalkeepers are key in football.

The 31-year-old has risen to prominence this season and is a dominant force in the league. He has kept four clean sheets and is, without a doubt, the most important component in Joseph Bedinak’s team. In fact, when he’s not playing, the defence looks unsettled.

He has taken on the responsibility as team captain, a role that he has excelled at, which has helped Aduana Stars perform well in the title challenge. The team is currently in third place with 20 points, level with Asante Kotoko and King Faisal.

His excellent performance this season almost secured a return to the Ghana national team. Sections of Ghanaian fans and media called for him to be selected for the upcoming CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in January 2022.

Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac opted not to include Addo, instead choosing the likes of Joseph Wolacott, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Richard Attah, and Lawrence Ati Zigi in the goalkeeping department.

Addo would have been a big plus for the Ghanaian Premier League club supporters. The talented goalkeeper has a pedigree that cannot be ignored, and he is no stranger to international football. As a prospect groomed to play for the Black Stars, the Ghanaian team would have been stronger with Addo included in the pick.

In his career he has played for all the national teams in Ghana. He has made appearances for the Black Stars and the Black Stars B, which is made up of local players.

In the junior ranks is where Addo truly shined for Ghana. He was part of the team that impressed greatly in the 2007 U17 Fifa World Cup in South Korea. His crowning moment was when he won gold in the world U20 Fifa World Cup in Egypt. The group that won the U20 is considered to be among the greatest junior international sides.

Getting back to the international fold is a goal Addo has set himself – and is one that is not out of reach. For now, he has to help Aduana chase the league title and try to win the FA Cup. So far, he has led the team well as its captain. If they continue playing the way they are playing, he will be lifting trophies at the end of the season.

Addo has already won two league championships with Aduana; he will want to add a third. A league title will bring happiness to the club, its fans and sponsor 10bet Africa.
