Talanta looking to get back to winning ways

December 2, 2021

After a three-week break, the Kenyan Premier League will return; Talanta FC will go to the Moi International Sports Center on Saturday, 4 December, to battle Mathare United.

The Nairobi outfit will search for the maximum points in order to climb up the table. Talanta is in ninth place on the table with nine points, and three points will see them shoot up to sixth place if other results go in their favour.

The three-week break allowed the league’s management to sort out their administrative structures. But, unfortunately for Talanta, the scheduled matches with Kenya Police and Nzoia Sugar had to be pushed back.

Head coach Ken Kenyatta’s side spent two weeks without any playing action. To keep the players refreshed, Kenyatta opted to take on KSG Ogopa in a friendly match.

fc-talanta-10bet-logo

The exhibition match aimed to improve the conditioning of the squad. It also allowed some fringe players to make a case for themselves and enable Kenyatta to make some tactical implementations and try out new things.

In keeping with the club’s ethos of developing youth talent, young players from the National Youth Talent Academy were given some minutes on the field.

Although Kenyatta’s team did not play the match at the same level of intensity as you would find in the FKF-PL, it did serve its purpose of keeping the players fit and ready for a testing schedule. After Sunday’s match with Police, they are set to play again on Wednesday, 1 December, against Nzoia Sugar. The game will be the first of six matches in December.

The clash with Police is the perfect game for Talanta to regain their confidence and try to kick on ahead of a busy summer of football. Police have lost three of their five matches. They are two points above the relegation zone, finding them in 14th place on the log.

Talanta this weekend can inflict more pain to Police and make sure their horrible start to the top tier division continues. After Sunday’s game, there won’t be much time to relax for Talanta as they have a date with Nzoia Sugar.

Sugar is another club struggling in the league this season; they only have two points in their opening six games. However, on Saturday 27 November, they will take on Bandari, one of the league’s best teams, this campaign.

They are expected to ease past Sugar relatively smoothly and get a maximum of three points. A loss for Sugar will result in them encountering Talanta with some heavy heads and horrible form. This will be an advantage for Ken Kenyatta’s side.

Talanta has an easy six points to collect against two relegation candidates. They have to take all of these six points. However, two wins will help push Talanta up the table and make sure they go to the December matches with confidence.

Aduana Stars hunting for a third successive win against WAFA

Aduana Stars hunting for a third successive win against WAFA

December 2, 2021

Aduana Stars will aim for a third win on the spin when they take on West African Football Academy on Saturday 04 December at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium.

Aduana made it a back-to-back win when they defeated Legon Cities 1-0 in Accra. The win came courtesy of a powerful free-kick by Yahaya Mohammed from the edge of the box, and the goalkeeper had no chance of stopping the rocket.

Credit to the Aduana goalkeeper Joseph Addo for keeping a clean sheet. He had a defining performance from the poles, making crucial saves and commanding his area. The defence also put their bodies on the line, defending with composure when put under pressure by Legon Cities.

The victory ensured that Aduana moved into the top four of the Ghanaian Premier League. It’s still early days in the season; however, it looks like Joseph Bediako’s team will have a good season.

“We have just started the league; we are gradually picking up. We have new players, and we are waiting for them to gel, then we can see the real Aduana,” said Bediako in his post-match interview.

They seem to have found the balance between defence and attack, which makes them a well-drilled team. In the last two games, they have scored six goals and only conceded one.

Aduana will take this good form to their next game against WAFA, which by no means will be an easy one. But the home advantage will be on the side of Aduana, and they will look to utilize it and put away WAFA.

In their last game at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium, Aduana thrashed Real Tamale 5-1, making their home stadium a fortress. On Saturday 04 December, the world-class facility will host WAFA, who is coming off a 1-0 victory over Great Olympics – their first win of the season. The three points they won moved them up to 14th place on the log.

WAFA has not been good travellers on the road this season. They have lost their two away games so far this season; the first was a 1-0 loss to King Faisal, and then they also went down 2-0 to Tamale. On the road, they struggle to score goals and let goals in.

Their away form is something that Aduana head coach Bediako will look to exploit when doing his preparations for the match. Another motivating factor to get a win on Saturday is the home loss Aduana suffered at the hands of Faisal, something that still bothers Bediako; he wants to compensate the supporters with a run of home wins.

With all facts considered, Aduana stand a good chance of winning over the weekend against WAFA.

Red Arrows still in the tie after 3-0 loss to Simba

Red Arrows still in the tie after 3-0 loss to Simba

December 2, 2021

Red Arrows will be out to do the impossible on Sunday 05 December when they try to overturn a 3-0 aggregate score when they meet Simba in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff.

A 3-0 deficit in any continental competition is a mammoth task to overcome, and this is what Arrows must deal with.

Simba, who has grown to be a giant in African football, swept Arrows away last Saturday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in a devastating manner.

Bernard Morrison ran the show in the rain in Tanzania and mesmerized his Zambian counterparts. He scored an excellent free-kick to open the scoring, pinning it in the bottom corner after beating the wall. He then set up Meddie Kagere for the second goal in sublime fashion – he beat three Arrows defenders inside the box with skill on his way to laying the ball for Kagere to tap in from close range.

Morrison then made it 3-0 with a solo goal; from a throw-in, he let the ball run past his chest and ran past the defence to slot in from a wide-angle. Arrows’ day got worse when Prosper Chiluya got a red card, meaning he won’t be available for the return leg.

Red Arrows should not be ashamed of the result in their away-game against Simba. The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is one of the most difficult stadiums to visit; teams from Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Nigeria have also been victims of Simba at the intimidating ground.

On Sunday, Arrows will host Simba on Hero´s Stadium, one of the traditional Zambian football stadiums, and that should help Arrows as they seek redemption. The passionate Arrows fans from Lusaka will also have a huge role to play if Arrows are to make a comeback of some sort.

To go through to the next round, Arrows must make sure that they win by four goals on the day and not let Simba get any chance to score. This is a hard ask for Arrows, who have not been the most prolific in front of goal this season. This season, their home games average one goal per game, which won’t be enough to get around Simba’s three goals.

The next best thing for them is to play for pride; they have to give a performance that will make the fans proud. With the desire to avenge high, Arrows will play on the front foot and try to put Simba under pressure from the start of the match until the final whistle. If they want to impose themselves on the match and fight, they need to play with spirit and tactical execution.

This won’t be an easy game for the Arrows, as Simba are no pushovers. Both teams on Sunday should score; the most likely result should be a score draw, meaning Simba should progress comfortably.

Talanta looking to get back to winning ways

26 November 2021

Football Club Talanta will be in search of a win when they meet Kenya Police on Sunday, 28 November, at the Ruaraka Stadium in Nairobi.

The Nairobi team has had a dry spell in the win’s column of late; their last win came about when they defeated Tuskers 2-1 on the 27 October, then four days later, that win was followed up by a 3-0 loss to Bandari. Their last league encounter was a 2-2 draw with Ulinzi on the 7 November.

FC Talanta is in ninth place in the Kenyan Premier League; they have secured nine points in six games. They have two wins, three draws and one loss this season and will look to add more wins this weekend.

Head coach Ken Kenyatta’s side spent two weeks without any playing action. To keep the players refreshed, Kenyatta opted to take on KSG Ogopa in a friendly match.

The exhibition match aimed to improve the conditioning of the squad. It also allowed some fringe players to make a case for themselves and enable Kenyatta to make some tactical implementations and try out new things.

Enyimba looking to make history in the CAF Confederation Cup

Enyimba looking to make history in the CAF Confederation Cup

26 November 2021

Nigeria’s most successful team Eniymba will be embarking on a journey to win the CAF Confederation Cup when they travel to Libya to square off with Al-Littihad on 28 Sunday, November, in the first leg of the playoff stage.

The former CAF Champions League winners will look at making a solid run in the Confed Cup as they have built a team that is more than capable of competition or, better yet, going all the way to win. Players like Tosin Omoyele, Victor Chukwuma Mbaoma, and Samuel Lucio Kalu will play a key role if Enyimba is to have a successful campaign.

In 2003 The People’s Elephants became the first Nigerian team to win the Champions League. They are also chasing the record to be the first Nigerian side to win the Confederation Cup.

10bet-enyimba

In the 2020/2021 Nigerian Professional Football League, which finished in August, they were runners up, finishing in second place behind Akwa United. However, while the league is on a break, Enyimba has steadily fulfilled its continental football duties.

This has been a great sacrifice from the players, coaching staff and management; it takes extra commitment to mount a title run in Africa.  The players have to have mental strength more than anything, while management must secure the financial means for all the travelling, accommodation and other logistical expenses. However, Enyimba will finance their campaign after they signed a three-year sponsorship deal with 10bet Africa.

Last month Enyimba played their preliminary stage games and qualified for the second round. They took on Diambars and defeated them 4-0 on aggregate. In the first leg, which was away, they won 1-0, and in the second leg at home, they outplayed their opponents, thrashing them 3-0.

It will be more than a month since Enyimba played competitive football on Sunday, which could be a concern. The players will lack match fitness; their conditioning will be in question. Things will also be made difficult by the different weather conditions on the day.

Enyimba is known in the continent for how they impose themselves on the game. They will need to enforce this mentality into the game when they play Al-Littihad.

Al-Littihad is also in the same predicament as Enyimba when it comes to match fitness. Although they recently started their league campaign, their opening game was on 22 Monday, November. Al-Littihad won their opening league game when they beat Abu Salem 2-0.

The tie against Enyimba will be their first in the Confederation Cup; they were relegated to the Confed Cup after being knocked out of the Champions League by ES Tunis. They too will be motivated to do well in the competition.

Sunday’s encounter should be a tight affair. Both teams will be resilient defensively. The game may be decided by some individual brilliance or a team pouncing on a lapse of concentration.

Dodoma on the hunt to win against Coastal Union

Dodoma is on the hunt for three points against Coastal Union

26 November 2021

Tanzanian outfit Dodoma Jiji hope to get back to their winning ways when they take on Coastal Union on Sunday, 28 November.

Dodoma drew 1 – 1 in their last league encounter against Biashara, where Anuary Jabir scored the opening goal for Mbwana Makata’s side in the first half. The tall striker controlled the ball from a failed aerial clearance and hit the ball on a half-volley, scoring spectacularly.

The game went on, and Dodoma failed to finish it off. A 1-0 lead in football is a dangerous score line as teams are still in the game and can always equalize. In the 60th minute, Biashara crawled back into the game thanks to a goal by Deogratins Mafie, who slotted in the near post from a cross.

Dodoma goalkeeper Hussein Masalanga touched the ball with soft hands before it went in. The strike caught him off guard as he had probably anticipated that the striker would control the ball; however, it hit the first time.

He would have been disappointed to concede in the manner in which he did. No keeper in the world wants to concede goals.

The draw must have felt like a loss for Dodoma as they dropped two points. However, Dodoma expected to take the three points on offer, especially with the home advantage.

Biashara had drawn two of their previous games and were a bit low on steam. However, the one point moved Dodoma to third place on the log in the Tanzanian Premier League, with 11 points collected already, which is a fantastic feat for the newly-promoted side.

Dodoma is playing in their first Premier League season and has started their campaign spectacularly. They are trying to keep Tanzanian giants Young Africans and Simba at the top of the table. The points collected at the start of the season will make a big difference when the league concludes.

Makata’s main objective this season is to avoid relegation; he has to secure the club’s status to ensure the team’s growth, brand, and fan base. In addition, he now has to galvanize his side to be ready for the Coastal Union game.

Coastal Union will visit the Jamhuri Stadium on the back of an away win against Polisi Tanzania, where they won 1-0. The smash and grab victory was a morale booster for Coastal Union, and they will take inspiration from it when they meet the high-flying newcomers in the Premier League.

Coastal Union is in fine form, too; their last five results include one win, three draws and one loss. Although they are in ninth place on the log with seven points, they trail Dodoma by four points. Dodoma on Sunday will want to widen the gap between them and Coastal Union.

Three points will be ideal for Dodoma and ensure they continue to have an excellent start in the topflight.

DCMP to unleash Norodien and Makusu

DCMP to unleash Norodien and Makusu

26 November 2021

Darling Club Motema Pembe will be looking to unleash their new signings when they take on Union Sportive Gendarmerie Nationale in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, 28 November.

The Kinshasa based club recently secured the services of South African Riyaad Norodien from Cape Town Spurs and Congolese international Jean-Marc Makusu on loan from AS Vita. These are signings that should excite the Les Immacules fans; Norodien is a quick, skilled winger with a powerful right foot, while Makusu, in his day, is one of the best strikers on the continent.

The addition of the two players makes the squad more robust, and their experience will be vital. Norodien has played for Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League. His career has slowed down in recent seasons, finding himself playing in the National First Division, but at DCMP, he has a chance to revive his career.

Another one who has a chance to spark life back to their career is Makusu. He has played for clubs in Congo, South Africa, Egypt, Belgium and Hungry but has stalled his career. The lack of game time at Orlando Pirates left him frustrated and saw him return to AS Vita, and it has not been a successful spell. But, back for the second time at DCMP, he’ll be hoping to kick on.

Makutu’s experience and knowledge of continental football will come in handy. The striker has 12 goals in 17 games in the Confederation Cup, while in the CAF Champions League, he has an impressive seven goals in ten games. He’ll be looking to rediscover the form that made him one of the most dangerous strikers on the continent.

The former Congolese national will also help with the development of young players in the dressing room. A player like Kadima Kabangu can learn a lot from a seasoned pro like Makusu.

Previewing Sundays crucial encounter USGN, Motema Pembe would have had enough time to rest and should be feeling refreshed. However, they didn’t play over the weekend; their last match was on Wednesday, 10 November, when they defeated Kinshasa 3-0. They are seventh in the Congolese league.

In the second tier of the continental competition, DCMP has done well so far. They entered the competition in the second round of the early stages. They took on Rwanda’s Kigali and won the two-legged tie 4-2. They won both the home and away legs by 2-1.  In the two legs, they were the dominant side, often attacking the front foot.

The Immacules will have to play the same way they did against Kigali when they take on USGN. Much of the attack came from the left-hand side against Kigali, and the left-sided players showed great chemistry, and they should be used as an offensive outlet if Motema Pembe wants an away win.

USGN will be a tough opposition at home, but Motema Pembe will be confident of getting something from the match and be comfortable before the return leg in December.
