10 December 2021

It is an advantage for Enyimba in their CAF Confederation Cup playoff tie with Al Ittihad SC following a 2-0 win at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday 05 December.

Sadiq Abubakar and Victor Mbaoma scored the goals that gave Finidi George’s the win in the second leg.  The second leg proceeded after the first leg was postponed because Enyimba were denied entry in Tunisia to link to Libya, where they were scheduled to play Al Ittihad on 28 November.

The postponement of the first leg meant the Nigerians could have an advantage if they won the second leg at home, and they did exactly that. The People’s Elephant controlled the match against Al Ittihad, being dominant in all areas of the game. They could have even got more goals but were denied by the goal post after an excellent strike by Orok Gabriel.

Enyimba’s win did not go unnoticed. According to reports in the Nigerian press, Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu, rewarded Enyimba FC with N1m following the victory over Al Ittihad.

The Chairman of Enyimba FC, Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu spoke about the incentive received. “Senator Kalu had promised to reward the team with N1m for a win, and following Sunday’s result, has duly fulfilled the pledge,” said Agwu.
