Red Arrows ready for a title challenge

January 5, 2022

The Red Arrows are currently on an impressive six-game winning streak and now find themselves in second place on the log with 29 points and a game in hand. The log leaders, Green Buffaloes, have 30 points.

To draw the curtain to 2021, Red Arrows did the impossible and defeated Zesco and Zanaco in consecutive games. Arrows were able to convert the two games in hand to six points. They collected the three points from Zanaco when the sides met on Friday, 31 December 2021.

A brace from Zambian football legend James Chamanga saw Red Arrows defeat Zanaco 2-1. The former Zambian international who was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 has been a revelation since joining Arrows in 2018.

The veteran, who will turn 42 in February, is ageing like fine wine. Chamanga is showing off the skills he had in his prime while playing in South Africa and China. His presence in the Arrows team has helped guide the young players and the head coach Chisi Mbewe.

The wins highlighted the title credentials of Red Arrows, as they managed to beat the biggest teams in Zambia. Talks of Red Arrows putting up a title challenge have emerged with their recent form and Chamanga, wants the team to continue winning games and challenge the league title.

“I’m looking forward to challenging for the league,” said Chamanga. “For the supporters and the team, it’s a good thing to win. Looking at the position we are in, we ended 2021 on a good note. Hopefully we can continue in the new year,” he said.

The new year for Arrows starts with two challenging games in a week. The last of their games in hand will be against Indeni, and Red Arrows have the chance to get to the top of the Zambian Super League with a win in their game on Wednesday, 05 January. In their current form. Arrows have the right squad to defeat Indeni, who is 15th on the table. Arrows should win the match 2-0 to take control of the table.

After they play Indeni on Wednesday, they will take on Zesco United in what will be a huge encounter. Zesco is in third place, a point behind Red Arrows. They are out to revenge themselves for the 2-1 home loss to Arrows.

But they will be taking on a different Red Arrows, one that won’t sit back and defend. This time at home, Red Arrows will impose themselves on the match from the start and dominate proceedings. Arrows understand that three points against Zesco will be crucial; a 2-1 win will be enough.
